WAUSAU, WI

A Getaway that’s not far away…
Centrally located in the state, the Wausau area proudly serves as the gateway to the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Surrounded by natural beauty, the area offers a diverse list of indoor and outdoor activities nestled at the foot of Rib Mountain and along the calm waters of the winding Wisconsin River.

Where all the seasons come alive!

We celebrate the changes in season knowing each one promises something worth the wait. Winter snow brings the opportunity to experience 75 fantastic downhill ski runs at Granite Peak Ski Area, the popular cross-country ski trails at Nine Mile Forest, 750 miles of groomed snowmobile trails in Marathon County, and the longest tubing runs in the state at Sylvan Tubing Hill. With warmer weather comes golfing, hiking and biking on the trails of our beautiful parks, fishing, swimming, sailing, boating or canoeing on the rivers and lakes. Summer is filled with festivals, concerts, and plenty of reasons to stay outdoors as long as possible. The brilliant reds, dappled yellows and vibrant oranges of the changing leaves are the perfect backdrop for enjoying your favorite fall activities and the annual pilgrimage to the top of Rib Mountain to witness the panoramic view of the breathtaking colors of the Wisconsin River valley.

A Full Calendar…
Throughout the year you can find great events and festivals including Badger State Winter Games, Avalanche Days at Granite Peak Ski Area, world class canoe/kayak competitions at Whitewater Park, Balloon Rally and Glow, Wisconsin Valley Fair, Big Bull Falls Blues Festival and Wausau’s Artrageous Weekend.

Dining options vary from the traditional supper club to brew pubs to popular ethnic eateries and you never have to worry about missing out on the Friday night fish fry. The Wausau area has more than 300 retail stores and specialty shops to explore. Start your day in the River District in downtown Wausau, work your way along Rib Mountain Drive to find national names, and wrap up your shopping trip at the Cedar Creek Mall in Rothschild.

Center stage…
For many visitors, the most popular discovery is the arts community. ArtsBlock is a must on the list of places to visit and includes the historic Grand Theater where you can watch regional and national performers of all genres. The adjacent Center for Visual Arts showcases regional artists working in a variety of mediums, special exhibits and events. The Woodson Art Museum offers artwork from every corner of the world through a busy year-round schedule of changing exhibitions and children’s activities. The Yawkey House is a beautifully restored home built in 1901 that provides a glimpse of Wausau’s past.

The Wausau area is conveniently located at the intersection of Interstate 39/Hwy 51 and Hwy 29 and is comprised of seven communities including Kronenwetter, Mosinee, Rib Mountain, Rothschild, Schofield, Wausau and Weston. A family-friendly, safe and affordable destination, the Wausau area offers plenty of outdoor and indoor activities to keep you coming back season after season.
