SUPERIOR, WI

Create your next adventure on the western tip of the largest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Superior. Whether you venture out on it, stroll its beaches or along a waterfront trail, the majesty and serenity of the largest, deepest and most pristine of the Great Lakes will take your breath away.

Explore the American Indian heritage of this region, the prosperity of early settlers, and the local impact of WWII in area museums, parks, and historic districts. Take a stroll though Fairlawn Mansion, a turn-of-the century lumberman's restored Victorian mansion; the S.S. Meteor Maritime Museum, the only remaining "whaleback"; the Old Fire House and Police Museum with its vintage fire engines, police memorabilia and designation as Wisconsin's Hall of Fame; and the Richard I Bong WWII Heritage Center, honoring Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, Major Richard I. Bong America's "Ace of Aces."

Superior's Barker's Island is a recreational focal point with an assortment of waterfront activities, harbor excursions dock, a glimpse of the past at the Maritime Museum, lodging, restaurants, entertainment and access to the paved Osaugie Waterfront Trail. The Osaugie offers a pleasant five mile hike along the waterfront and connects with Michigan and Minnesota via the 60 mile Tri-County Corridor multi-use trail for hikers, bikers and off-road vehicle/snowmobile use. The city's municipal forest is a treasure with shelters, hiking, mountain biking and cross-country ski trails.

Breathtakingly beautiful landscapes, rivers and lakes, trails, state parks, golf courses, campgrounds, picturesque towns and villages welcome you to Douglas County. Wisconsin's highest waterfall at Pattison State Park, spectacular at 165 feet, and Amnicon State Park's unique covered bridge are favorite destinations. The Brule River is a favorite fishing site for American Presidents and a canoe and kayak paradise. Lucius Woods Park with its Performing Arts Center's outdoor concerts in Solon Springs and Gordon's flowage and resorts invite you to come, relax and enjoy.

Celebrate the ancient, oriental sport of dragon boat racing at the Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival. Experience an eclectic blend of orchestral pops, celtic, country, gospel, cabaret, band and children's outdoor concerts at Lucius Woods Performing Arts Center. Watch saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, bare-back riding and barrel racing at the Great Northern Classic Rodeo. Feel the heat as men and women's teams from Canada and the Midwest compete on an outdoor rink at the Korbel International Short-Ice Broomball Tournament. See the rib-rattling racing action at the Miller Lite Northern National Stock Car Races, and many more exciting events throughout the year.

Great lodging, restaurants, shopping and hospitality are yours to enjoy. And there's always golfing, hiking, biking, canoeing and kayaking, birding, fishing, charter sailing, wildlife watching and much more.
