MARSHFIELD, WI

Marshfield is a City rich in Wisconsin lore. Lumbering, rich farm lands and railroading
dominated its earlier history. At one time 50 trains stopped at the station daily as several hotels crowded with passengers awaiting connections to go "out west" or "back east."

A dozen motels await the visitor, offering a variety of accommodations and prices. And when we stopped counting, we had a list of over 45 restaurants and convenience food establishments serving the community and its guests.

Entertaining out–of-town guests is Marshfield’s forte. As the song says, “Let me entertain you!” We will and very well!

Would you expect one of Wisconsin’s leading municipal zoos to be in Marshfield? Our zoo animals are not caged, but free to roam in their natural habitat right before your eyes. Watch the buffalo grazing while the elk drink from neighboring pond or wolves with their cubs watching black bears playfully wrestling.

Foxfire Gardens is located four miles north of Marshfield. Foxfire Gardens has tried to blend the lasting simplicity of the Chinese style with the ruled and highly symbolic Japanese gardens, carefully mixing the flair for formality of late European Gardens.

Jurustic Park is located across from Foxfire Gardens. Jurustic Park is a display of many of the extinct creations that inhibited the large McMillan Marsh near Marshfield during the Iron Age. After amateur paleontologist Clyde Wynia discovered the corroded remains of these creatures he began excavating. As the rusted components of these critters were recovered they were matched as closely as possible with the original creatures and welded back together to their original forms.

Upham Mansion, restored home of former Wisconsin Governor William Henry Upham, represents mid-Victorian architecture at its finest. The historic house museum displays vintage Victorian furniture owned by Governor Upham.

The Heritage Rose Garden behind Upham Mansion is a never ending source of pleasure to visitors. The 32 varieties of roses in the garden are among the oldest, most beautiful roses in the world, with origins dating back to 200 A.D. at the time of the Roman Empire.

Marshfield is home of the World’s Largest Round Barn located at Central Wisconsin State Fair Park. The impressive focal point of the Marshfield Fairgrounds is the ?World’s Largest Round Barn. The round barn was built in 1916 to house pure-bred animals in 250 stanchions. The barn is 150 feet in diameter and 70 feet high.

New Visions Gallery is Marshfield’s art connection. The non-profit community museum has been located in the lobby of Marshfield Clinic since 1975. New Visions organizes a series of changing exhibitions. Exhibits change every six to seven weeks and feature a variety of art forms including national traveling exhibitions.
