Ennis celebrates each Memorial Day weekend in Ennis with its annual National Polka Festival. This national Czech festival celebrates with a king and queen dance, Polkafest run, giant parade, horseshoe tournament, arts and crafts, Czech cuisine and more than 14 live polka bands.
Ennis has more! Ennis, designated the “Official Bluebonnet City” and the “Official Bluebonnet Trail” of Texas, is home to the Bluebonnet Trails sponsored by the Ennis Garden Club. This event, featuring more than 40 miles of the first mapped trails in Texas, pays tribute to these breathtaking and abundant fields of vibrant wildflowers. Bluebonnet Trails span the entire month of April with the festival being held April 17-19.
In October, Autumn Days in Ennis’ Fall Festival transforms downtown Ennis into a vivid celebration of the season with live music, children’s activities and other fall activities.
In December, a wonderful community celebration is held that includes thousands of festive lights that adorn the historic downtown and residential district. Ennis hosts a spectacular lighted parade to celebrate the season.
Other activities in Ennis include specialty shopping in the historic downtown, enjoying live plays at the Ennis Public Theatre, enjoying the Ennis Railroad and Cultural Heritage Museum and watching your favorite movie under the stars at the Galaxy Drive-in Theatre. The Texas Motorplex, one of the nation’s most renowned drag racing facilities, provides its thrill seekers a yearly calendar of drag racing and specialty events. If you like to camp, picnic or enjoy a variety of water sports, then scenic Lake Bardwell is the place to be. Visitors enjoy skiing, fishing, swimming, camping and boating at their leisure.
