Gatlinburg boasts an extensive arts and crafts community that reflects its mountain heritage. Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community, established in 1937, is the largest group of independent artisans in North America. Located on an eight-mile loop at the northeast edge of Gatlinburg, the Community proudly preserves the craft heritage of the Great Smoky Mountains year-round. This area offers you the best in a wide range of craft shops, including pottery, woodcarving, candle making, quilting, weaving, broom making and painting, among many other fine art forms.

The long list of special events during the year includes the nation’s earliest Fourth of July parade which begins at 12:01 a.m.

Summertime in this city also includes free entertainment along Parkway provided by the city’s Smoky Mountain Tunes & Tales program. Each evening along the Parkway, Tunes & Tales characters and musicians transform the street into one big stage, enlightening visitors on the culture and heritage of the area through storytelling, craft demonstrations such as spinning, and lots of toe-tapping music and clogging.

From November through February, Gatlinburg Winter Magic features festive all-LED lighting, especially along Parkway where the city’s undergrounding of utilities and streetscape project, flower program and other endeavors have beautified the downtown.

The City has been hosting the Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade since 1976 and offers a number of themed events, including a magnificent Veteran’s Day Celebration and New Year’s Eve Ball Drop.
