STILLWATER, MN

Located along the banks of the St. Croix River, you’ll find the historic community of Stillwater, Minnesota. Commonly referred to as the Birthplace of Minnesota, the City of Stillwater dates back to the middle 1800’s and its founding as a frontier town. It was the lumber boom though, that made Stillwater what it is today. Many of the buildings in downtown Stillwater are on the National Historic Register, as is the famous lift bridge, Stillwater’s most recognizable icon. Along the banks of the picturesque St. Croix River, a designated national scenic riverway, visitors have long sought out the beauty and tranquility of this unique river town. Stillwater’s Main Street is lined with boutiques, antique stores, book sellers, restaurants, coffee shops, art galleries and more.

In addition to the renowned shopping, numerous attractions will easily fill your days. The Stillwater Trolley gives narrated tours of the city that highlight her historic beginnings and colorful tales of the past. The Warden’s House Museum on the north end offers a glimpse into life of yesteryear. Take a break in Lowell Park along the riverfront and enjoy the view while watching the lift bridge in action. Maybe take a romantic gondola ride for two, choose a dinner excursion on a St. Croix riverboat, or rent your own boat and join in the river fun.

The St. Croix Valley boasts a number of golf courses geared towards all levels of ability. The commander grain elevator at the south end of Main Street is a popular spot for the adventurous since being reinvented as an indoor climbing facility with 16 different climbing walls.  Numerous bike trails can be found in the Stillwater area, as well as tubing down the Apple River in summer and downhill skiing and snow tubing in the winter. Take in the entire valley view with a hot-air balloon ride.

Dining options in the St. Croix Valley abound and are some of the best to be found. From casual to European bistro to fine dining you’re assured of finding something for every taste. Historic ambience and scenery come standard.

Lodging choices include luxurious Bed & Breakfasts, many of which are former lumber baron homes; downtown historic inns, and modern hotels offering a wide range of amenities and prices.

Stillwater is located just minutes from the downtown districts of both Minneapolis and St. Paul. The Mall of America and the International airport are an equally convenient 30 minute drive.
