Located on the banks of the Mississippi River, St. Cloud is the fastest growing metropolitan area in Minnesota. There has never been a better time to explore this diverse and historic community.
In warm weather, take a stroll through the Munsinger and Clemens Gardens. Located on the banks of the Mississippi, the gardens are adjacent, but each has its own distinct character. Created by WPA workers in the 1930s, the Munsinger Gardens is made up of 14 acres of flower-lined paths, shaded by tall pines. A recent addition, the Clemens Gardens consists of six gardens designed in classical European styles, but featuring American flowers as well as decorative ironwork and splashing fountains.
Explore the heritage of the St. Cloud area at the Stearns History Museum, where visitors are invited to walk through summer lodges built in the style of the Ojibwa and Dakota tribes, and walk in the steps of German immigrants of the 1870s. Experience occupations of the past, from a 1930s granite quarry to a dairy barn of the late nineteenth century.
Some of these former quarries have become recreational areas. At Quarry Park, most of the 30 granite quarries are now filled with water, forming picturesque ponds. The park features a swimming hole that is, at its deepest, 112 feet deep, as well as paths for mountain biking and opportunities for trout fishing.
