ROSWELL, GA

Nature lovers, history buffs, art aficionados and foodies follow their passion to Historic Roswell, Georgia!

Located just north of Atlanta along the banks of the Chattahoochee River, Roswell is home to the Chattahoochee Nature Center, an environmental sanctuary encompassing 30 species of native wildlife and 127 acres of native plants and gardens, and a large swatch of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area right at its front door. With such a vibrant green scene, hiking, picnicking, kayaking, canoeing, rafting and fishing are popular pursuits and Roswell is Georgia’s only bicycle friendly community. Miles of hiking trails meander throughout the city, linking a 640-acre historic district with the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Cross the covered pedestrian bridge and discover the ruins of Roswell original mills. A free downloadable audio tour of Roswell’s Mill Village includes Civil War history and the story of the 400 women and children mill workers who were charged with treason and sent north to uncertain fates.

History buffs will want to explore as much of the Historic District as possible, especially the 122 acres listed on the National Register of Historic Places that include the 1839 Town Square.
A few steps from the square you will experience “A Southern Trilogy: The Authentic Story of the American South.” The Trilogy (3 antebellum homes: Barrington Hall, Bulloch Hall and Smith Plantation Home) provide visitors the opportunity to hear fascinating stories of Roswell’s founding families and narrate a chapter in the saga of the American South through docent led tours, family heirlooms, memorabilia and interactive experiences. Purchase a Trilogy Pass and explore all three aspects of this uniquely American drama. Free cell phone tours of the grounds are also available, but your plan minutes will apply.

Against this vintage backdrop is a lively shopping, dining and arts scene. From a boutique for Southern primitives and folk art, to a sophisticated mélange of gifts, bed and bath linens and accessories, antique markets provide hours of discovery — as does a unique retail lineup that blends perfectly with nearly three dozen art galleries. Roswell’s Historic District and its dozens of restaurants serve up something for every taste: barbecue and bistro, tapas and Thai, down-home Southern cooking and continental cuisine.

Special events dot the landscape: Georgia’s Largest Memorial Day Ceremony; Bicycle Festivals and Rides, Arts Festivals, Great Chattahoochee River Paint-Out and GO WILD in Roswell are just a few of options for family fun.

With so much to see and do you’ll want to stay awhile and Roswell’s lodging facilities are friendly, affordable and waiting to welcome you.
