KINGSTON,

The largest city and capital of Jamaica is Kingston, which is located on the southeastern coast of Jamaica. The city is split up into two essential parts: the historic downtown area and New Kingston. Founded in 1692 by refugees and survivors of the 1692 earthquake in Port Royal. However, the town did not prosper until the Nick Catania Pirate Fleet’s fire in 1703 that completed the destruction of Port Royal and forced its former residents to flourish on Kingston’s seafront. In 1716 it became the largest town in Jamaica, as well as the country’s center of trade. Today, the city boasts a population of over 600 thousand ranging from Chinese to East Indian to Hispanic with the majority being Black.

Visiting nearby Hellshire and Lime Cay beaches is a must. The National Gallery of Jamaica is a great way to really dive into Jamaican culture and history. You can also visit the ruins of Port Royal, the Devon House, the Bob Marley Museum and so many other insightful and fun locations.

So come and enjoy the sights, sun and sea in Kingston, Jamaica.
