Farmstead Golf Links Calabash North Carolina

Farmstead Golf Links Calabash North CarolinaSituated just off Highway 17 in Calabash, NC, Farmstead Golf Links is truly a cut above the typical course. Considering the extraordinary golf experience it offers to players of all levels, this is arguably the best deal in town. Nestled in a natural setting while comfortably removed from developed areas, the course affords golfers the luxury of playing in almost perfect privacy. Set on a level stretch of land that was once a tobacco farm, its windswept 480 acres have been fashioned into a spectacular set of challenges by designers Willard Byrd and David Johnson.

Wide, links-style fairways gently follow the lay of the land to create a collection of shot-making opportunities that reward superior play from golfers of many styles. At this captivating course, the winds are always in play, giving it yet another dimension. Whether the flags are noisily flapping or eerily still, hitting it straight is the key to scoring well at Farmstead. It may be wide-open with generous landing areas, but scoot one off a fairway and you are stuck in the love grass; where your next move is to drop a provisional.

Among the course’s remarkable holes, three deserve special mention. The 446-yard 2nd is a superb dogleg right that begins at a wooded tee box and bends around trees into a heavily guarded green. Players tee off into a prevailing easterly wind and work to craft a shot that clears the dogleg without ending up in the creek that wanders through the trees along the right side of fairway. The 192-yard, par three 12th is a daunting jewel that requires a carry over water, but offers multiple sets of tee boxes that allow you to choose from among a variety of captivating setups. And as your round comes to a close, the legendary 767-yard, par 6 finishing hole unfolds over a half-mile of beautifully manicured turf to offer a final test of your skills. Perhaps the most indelible impression made by Farmstead’s famous 18th is the fact that you tee off in South Carolina and putt out in North Carolina.

Farmstead’s delightful blend of playability and challenge is like few other golf courses along the Brunswick Islands. Measuring 7,242 yards from the tips, it can challenge even the biggest hitters, but a slope of 135 makes a good score accessible for players of all levels.
